capably first off you should buy an AMD dual core processor, 2gbs of run into, an ASUS motherboard, a SOUNDBLASTER soundcard because onbboard sound sucks, and an 8800 gts video card. also if you similar to storing a lot of stuff(music, video, pics, etc..) buy atleast a 320gb hard drive from seagate. put together sure that what ever processor you buy you buy socket AM2 and for a hard drive brand sure you buy SATA 3GBs instead of IDE because these two are one of the newer technologies out at the moment.

go and get around 7 ,8000 series video cards for gaming will last appropriate time around 150 to 400 dollars by nividia
get a asus sli montherboard if u work on similar to buy project so u can put up to 2 video cards for %60 faster
cheap case and aleast a 500 watt power supply so u dont hold to worry just about power $80
