what is the problem beside the usb port whenever i plug any usb device the pc eventually hungs up and desires to be restarted through the restart switch? hoping for a positive answer...thanks..

You own just one usb port? If so, the workings of that port is out of order. Still, try reinstalling your OS and see if it help.
