Intel Core Duo & Core 2 Duo are dual core processors, but there is one core difference - Core 2 Duo contains two 64 bit processors, and Core Duo has two 32 bit processors. There may also be differences surrounded by the L2 cache, socket size, and front side bus, but 32 v 64 bit is the major difference



64 bit software is specifically out there, but most software in our time are still written in 32 bit. Windows Vista & Mac OS X are both 32 bit operating systems. Therefore, the advantages of have 64 bit processors in itself (and only comparing 32 to 64 bit) is not a huge advantage.



However, we will promising see a gradual migration to 64 bit software, so it's a good impression to have a 64 bit processor for the adjectives. There are 64 bit versions of Vista & Windows Server OS's available, and I'm sure that more applications will be written for 64 bit.



Besides the 32 v 64 bit, Core 2 Duo's are some of the best performing processors on the flea market. They also consume power more efficiently, so they do not grill up as much. As we know, heat is a big rival to semiconductors.



If you are in the process of building a computer, don't even mess near Core Duo - Core 2 Duo is the way to travel.
Im not exactly sure but the conroes have quad core!..
